I had the most incredible evening with author Emma Brodie, chit-chatting about her new book, Into the Blue, all alongside an amazing group of friends & avid readers. And of course, we were so lucky for the absolutely beautiful & stunning night, all with The Pearl Inn Scituate as our backdrop.
Ann Patchett said in a recent interview: “The experience of loving a book is not complete until you have turned around and said to someone, ‘You have to read this.’”
I feel like that quote perfectly captures why we all gathered to hear Emma Brodie speak — about her writing journey, inspiration behind the book, her fan-casting if the book was made into a TV/film adaptation, how she picks character names, the power of fandom, and more.
Reading may start as a solitary experience, but the joy of it comes from sharing the stories we love. Into the Blue is one of those books I’ve been recommending to just about everyone.

Supporting local authors, local businesses, and reading in our community is exactly what Sunday Reading Book Club is all about, and I’m so grateful for everyone that came out last night!
